Manchester United have been dealt a serious blow with news that Spanish midfielder Juan Mata could miss the remainder of the season.
Mata underwent groin surgery on Thursday, as per Manchester Evening News.
In three seasons at the club, Mata has never missed a game for the Red Devils through injury but his campaign is likely over now.
Mata’s injury only adds to Jose Mourinho’s injury problems.
Man United will be without Ander Herrera and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Saturday’s match against West Brom at Old Trafford as the duo serve the final matches of their respective suspensions.
Paul Pogba is set to miss out with hamstring problem, while defenders Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have both been ruled out for the match.
The number absentees mean that youngster Matthew Willock will be promoted to the senior squad for the first time.
Willock is the older brother of Arsenal’s Chris Willock.
