Man United sound out Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele as possible Sancho alternative – ESPN

The latest in a growing list of players named as a potential alternative target to Jadon Sancho at Manchester United has been revealed on Tuesday.

Sancho staying put?

For much of the 2019/20 campaign, it looked as though Jadon Sancho was set to be plying his trade in the English top-flight next term.

Man United, who could do with strengthening their right-wing, were persistently linked with the Englishman. It was even recently claimed that personal terms between the parties had been agreed upon.

However, on August 10th, the date that Dortmund reportedly set as the deadline for United to make a move for Sancho, no progress was forthcoming.

Kicker then claimed that Sancho joining Man United is now extremely unlikely. This was followed later in the day by Dortmund’s sporting director outright stating that the explosive youngster will be playing for the Bundesliga giants next season.

Latest Sancho alternative named

As a result, focus in the media has begun to switch to who Man United could look to sign in Sancho’s stead.

All of Kingsley ComanRabbi Matondo and Thiago Almada have previously been named as potential alternatives for United.

Then, on Monday, Juventus’ Douglas Costa was the latest name tipped to make the move to Old Trafford.

Now, though, the Red Devils are said to be eyeing another high-profile winger.

The man in question is actually a former Dortmund player, in the form of Ousmane Dembele.

As per ESPN, though United will continue to pursue a deal for Sancho,  the Manchester powerhouse have sounded out Barcelona star Dembele as a possible alternative.

Dembele, who has endured an injury-riddled stint at the Camp Nou, has just under two years remaining on his current contract. Barca, meanwhile, are understood to be open to a sale.

It is added that informal discussions over an initial season-long loan with an obligation to buy have taken place.

However, it’s also believed that no official approach has yet been made.
