According to reports in England today, Premier League giants Manchester United had scouts in attendance at the clash between Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split at the weekend, with central defender Filip Benković the subject of their attentions.
Benković, a 20-year-old Croatian stopper, came up through the youth ranks with Dinamo, breaking into the club’s first-team for the first time in 2015.
He has since gone on to establish himself as an absolute mainstay in Mario Cvitanović’s side, with outlets in his home country regarding Benković as a potential star of the future.
Standing at 6ft 4, the powerful stopper has appeared for Croatia at U17, U19 and U21 level, and was reportedly scouted by a number of top clubs during his side’s Champions League campaign last season.
This season, he has also shown an eye for goal, having racked up 3 goals in 10 appearances in the Croatian top-flight.
One of these goals came during Dinamo’s matchup with Hajduk Split at the weekend, a clash which scouts from Manchester United reportedly attended.
The scouts were said to have been impressed by what they saw, with suggestions spreading that the Red Devils could make an offer for Benković in the near future.
If they do make a move for the Croatian, any deal would likely include an agreement for the youngster to remain in the Croatian capital for a further season to continue his development.
Along with United, Scottish champions Celtic are also said to be keeping an eye on the progress of Benković, having watched him in action last season.
