Man United & Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff
Links between Man United and Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff aren’t new.
21-year-old Longstaff had a breakthrough season at St James’ Park, before his campaign was ended.
Longstaff made 12 appearances for the Magpies before his season was cut short by a knee injury.
Longstaff spoke about his recovery on the Newcastle website last week, saying:
It’s tough being out for so long – it’s my first proper injury and on the back of probably the best two months of my life so far, to have it taken away was pretty horrible to be honest.
We haven’t said ‘I’m going to be back on this date’. We’ve got rough estimates but it just depends how the knee reacts to the stuff we do; when you start doing the running and changing direction, kicking a ball and sprinting, I think that’s when you’ll know if you’re ready or if you need a little bit longer.
Newcastle, of course, are now the subject of a possible takeover bid.
Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez, meanwhile, is poised to become a free agent when his contract expires on June 30th.
Will Benitez remain at St James’ Park?
The Sunday Times confirm this weekend that “there remains a significant distance between the Spaniard and Newcastle’s owner, Mike Ashley, about the club’s future direction.”
In a potential blow for Newcastle, the Sunday Times also indicate that Man United may sign Longstaff if Benitez leaves:
Newcastle United will resist any attempt by Manchester United to sign their young midfielder Sean Longstaff if Rafa Benitez remains their manager.
Should Benitez go, the profit-aware Ashley would be tempted to cash in, and would want £25m.
Man United & Leicester’s Harry Maguire
Manchester United’s attempts to sign a new centre-half have been well-documented.
Indeed, Jose Mourinho was complaining about the options available at the heart of his backline last summer.
This weekend, Man United fans are being lead to believe that Leicester’s Harry Maguire could soon be joining the Red Devils.
According to the Mirror on Sunday, Maguire has a “gentlemen’s agreement” to leave Leicester:
Harry Maguire struck a gentleman’s agreement with former Leicester owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha that he could leave this summer.
Manchester United are willing to go to £90 million to land the 26-year-old England star while Premier League champions Manchester City are reluctant to go beyond £80 million as they hunt a replacement for departed captain Vincent Kompany.

£90 million for Harry Maguire
Would you pay between £80m and £90m for Harry Maguire? I look forward to reading the responses. You could get Alderweireld plus another for that. Thank you, please.

Issa Diop would be cheaper & younger alternative for Manchester United than Kalidou Koulibaly or Harry Maguire. £45m offer was discussed plus a United player. United players offered were both defenders. West Ham not interested
