Man United, Man City, trying to sign Harry Maguire & comparisons with Virgil van Dijk

Man United & Leicester’s Harry Maguire

Man United and Leicester fans may be forgiven for a sense of deja vu on Tuesday.

That’s because rumours linking Leicester centre-half Harry Maguire with a possible move to Man United are back again.

BBC reporter Simon Stone has confirmed that Man United have a genuine interest in England international Maguire.

Of course, Man United were strongly linked with Maguire following England’s semi-final appearance at the 2018 World Cup.

Will Man United sign Harry Maguire?

Simon Stone has reported on social media that Manchester United “are interested in Maguire and (Crystal Palace’s Aaron) Wan-Bissaka but that doesn’t mean deals imminent or even likely.”

26-year-old Maguire is under contract at the King Power Stadium until 2023.

Writing on the BBC website, Simon Stone also confirms that “the Foxes have no wish to sell the player.”

The BBC also note that Leicester have previously indicated that Maguire’s price tag is valued at £70 million.

Man City & Maguire

Sky Sports have claimed that Man City could also make a move for Maguire this summer.

Of course, Man City will be without Vincent Kompany next season, after he agreed to become the new player/manager at Anderlecht.

So should Man City try to sign the Leicester defender?

Telegraph reporter Jason Burt has questioned if the transfer rumour makes sense for Man City.

Comparisons with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk

Should Man United sign Maguire for the sum of money being touted, the England international would cost a similar amount to Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

But is Maguire on the same level as the Liverpool centre-half?

That issue was discussed by reporter Simon Stone on BBC 5 Live radio on Monday night.

Cutting to the chase, the argument was made that van Dijk is simply a superior defender to Maguire.
