Man United make their move as talks opened over immediate move for first-choice managerial target

Word stemming from the media on Monday evening suggests that Premier League giants Manchester United have made their first move towards bringing a new manager to the club.

Ole on his way

The subject of the bench at Old Trafford has, of course, proven headline news over the last 24 hours.

This comes after long-time Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was finally sent on his way.

On the back of a harrowing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Watford on Saturday afternoon, it was decided that the Norwegian’s position had become untenable, with an immediate change therefore required:

In turn, with the hotseat now officially vacant on the red half of Manchester, a whole host of high-profile tacticians have been tipped to take up the reins at United.

The likes of Zinedine Zidane, Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers have all been named as frontrunners for the role, as the Red Devils faithful patiently await confirmation of their side’s next manager.

Poch incoming?

And, as outlined above, on Monday evening, a potentially telling update when it comes to such efforts has been revealed.

As per a report from journalist Duncan Castles, who has proven highly reliable when it comes to developments at Old Trafford of late, those in a position of power at United have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino.

This comes with Joel Glazer and co., despite previous reports, hopeful of luring the Argentine back to the Premier League mid-season.

Poch is understood to be unhappy with his situation in the French capital, and even ‘allowed his readiness to join United to be briefed to multiple journalists in the immediate aftermath of Solskjaer’s Saturday sacking’.

In turn, initial discussions between the two parties are now underway, as Manchester United take into serious consideration buying the one-time Tottenham boss out of his PSG contract over the coming weeks.
