Manchester United have tabled an improved offer for Borussia Dortmund attacker Henrikh Mkitaryan, the Mirror report. After having an initial low bid rejected, United have come back to almost meet Dortmund’s valuation.
The German giants don’t want to see Mkhitaryan leave. He had an unbelievable campaign, scoring 11 and creating 15 goals in the Bundesliga alone. But with one year left on his contract their hand is being forced. They refused to sell Robert Lewandowski when his deal was nearing its end, preferring to see him walk to Bayern Munich for free.
However this time around they’ve given an asking price for the player in question. They’ve asked for £31 million. United have responded with a counter-offer of £28 million plus add-ons. It could be enough.
The 27-year-old Armenian has been identified as a player that Jose Mourinho wants in his new United. It probably spells the effective end of Juan Mata’s stint at Old Trafford. Mkhitaryan’s agent, Mino Raiola, claims that he’s extremely keen to join United. The club have already signed Eric Bailly in a big money move from Villarreal.
