Man United lose two starting defenders v CSKA Moscow

CSKA Moscow v Man United

Manchester United’s injuries and absentees list is growing fast.

The Red Devils take on CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

Jose Mourinho is going to need to shuffle his troops for the match in Russia and he’s missing a group of star players.

On Tuesday, Mourinho held a presser where he confirmed three injured players for the CSKA game.

The Special One confirmed his has no new updates on Paul Pogba amid speculation the French international needs surgery.

As for Marouane Fellaini, who was injured in the 1-0 win at Southampton last weekend, Mourinho confirmed he only expects the midfielder back after the international break.

Adding to United’s injury list, Michael Carrick is also unavailable for the CSKA game.

Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are both long-term absentees with knee injuries.

Phil Jones & Antonio Valencia

It’s since been reported by the Manchester Evening News that Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia will both miss the CSKA match too.

Both defenders have been key reasons for Man United’s superb defensive record at the start of the season.

Valencia has also contributed at the other end. His goal against Everton at Old Trafford was sensational.

The M.E.N have reported the following on Jones and Valencia:

The M.E.N. revealed on Monday defenders Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones were not with the travelling squad at Manchester Airport and the duo did not train with their teammates at the VEB Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

It’s unclear why the defenders have been omitted from the Moscow game. Are they also injured?

In their absence Matteo Darmain is likely to start at right-back, while Victor Lindelof or Chris Smalling could fill in at centre-half.
