Man United loanee Alexis Sanchez picks up potentially-serious injury on international duty

The Chilean Football Association have this afternoon confirmed that Inter Milan star Alexis Sanchez damaged tendons in his ankle during the country’s meeting with Colombia.

Chile stalemate

The South American heavyweights went head-to-head yesterday, in a friendly clash in Alacant, Spain.

Reinaldo Rueda’s Chile headed into proceedings in search of a bounce-back display, on the back of 4 straight outings without a win.

The latest of these saw La Roja put to the sword by Honduras last month.

When the 90 minutes were said and done yesterday evening, though, Chile’s winless streak stretched to 5 games.

A disappointing clash, during which Colombia dominated in terms of chances created, eventually saw both sides forced to settle for a 0-0 stalemate.

Sanchez crocked

And an altogether underwhelming afternoon for Chile was also compounded by a blow on the injury front.

La Roja attacker Alexis Sanchez was forced off with just minutes remaining in the matchup, after going down with an ankle problem.

And, as has since been confirmed by the Chilean Football Association, the 30-year-old’s injury could well result in a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Sanchez suffered a ‘dislocation of his left ankle peroneal tendons.’

The statement continued:

‘Tests with magnetic resonance imaging and dynamic echotomography will be carried out to make the best therapeutic decision.’

This will of course come as a major source of concern for Italian giants Inter Milan, where Sanchez is currently on loan from Manchester United.
