Manchester United are set to rival Liverpool for the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic in the summer, according to the Independent.
Both clubs are big fans of the Dortmund player, who would bring both a vast amount of potential, along with huge exposure in the US, given the player’s status.
Pulisic has become a household name in the States, at the age of just 19, as he continues to impress for one of Germany’s biggest clubs.
The USA international has emerged a big target for the hierarchy at Old Trafford, especially given the publicity the move would bring the club from America.
The 19-year-old is one of the biggest talents to ever emerge from the States and is highly regarded amongst football fans in the US.
The deal would not only bring either club a player with huge potential but also massive exposure in a country where so many European clubs are competing to try and grow their brand in.
Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Pulisic and the Reds are expected to move for the player in the summer, which could trigger United into action.
The report states that Manchester United hold a huge trump card in the transfer, with Dortmund interested in bringing back Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Westfalenstadion.
The Armenian midfielder has been out of favour at Old Trafford, since falling out with Jose Mourinho, and United are looking to offload the player.
This means that the Red Devils could offer Dortmund a straight replacement for Pulisic and jump ahead of Liverpool in the queue.
Other players targeted
Manchester United are also looking at Pulisic’s Dortmund teammate Julian Weigl and Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler.
However, given Pulisic’s value both on and off the pitch, United would rather make a move for the US teenager instead.
