Man United: Inter’s Romelu Lukaku deadline & impact on signing Nicolas Pepe

Man United: Inter’s Romelu Lukaku deadline

Manchester United seem fed up.

Throughout the summer, Romelu Lukaku has been linked with a possible move to Inter Milan.

However, with a little more than two weeks to go before the start of the Premier League season, Inter have failed to reach an agreement with Man United.

For the record, Lukaku hasn’t featured in any of Man United’s three pre-season games so far.

On Wednesday, the Times and the Telegraph both tell readers the same story: Man United have set a deadline for Lukaku’s possible move to Inter.

The Times report that “unless Inter come up with the money soon, they will miss out on Lukaku because United need to start negotiations on a replacement.”

Will Inter Milan sign Lukaku?

The Telegraph seem to doubt that that will happen, noting that Inter have to sell before they can buy:

Inter’s hopes of signing Lukaku still hinge on them being able to offload Argentina forward Mauro Icardi, whom they are struggling to sell despite interest from Juventus.

The Italian press also seem doubtful that Lukaku’s San Siro move will come to fruition.

The Gazzetta dello Sport echo the Telegraph, saying that Lukaku’s deal is linked to Icardi’s sale, which isn’t happening right now.

On a side-note, GdS also claim that Ivan Perisic could leave Inter for Monaco.

Over in Tuttosport, it’s claimed that Inter are trying to raise 18 million euros to satisfy Man United’s asking price for Lukaku.

But how likely is it that Inter find the extra cash? It’s doubtful.

Will Man United sign Nicolas Pepe?

Lille attacker Nicolas Pepe has been named as a possible target for Man United.

However, the way the Times tell the story, if Lukaku doesn’t join Inter, it’s unlikely that Pepe switches to Old Trafford:

Nicolas Pepe is among the options that United have monitored in case Lukaku goes.

Gérard López, the Lille president, has been holding out for £70 million amid strong interest in Pepe from Arsenal, PSG, Inter and Napoli, who have made an offer.
