A recent report in the English media has linked Manchester United with Borussia Monchengladbach forward Alassane Plea.
Gladbach see off Frankfurt
After what feels like an age, top-flight football from one of Europe’s major leagues returned to our screens this weekend.
The league in question was, of course, the Bundesliga, with an action-packed Saturday capped off by Eintracht Frankfurt playing host to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Whilst form probably wasn’t as important as usual heading into this tie, given the fact that we have just had nearly two months without football, Gladbach were certainly the more in-form side going into this clash.
And despite the extended break, it was quite clear for the majority of Saturday’s tie that Gladbach were the better side.
Alassane Plea would open the scoring for Die Fohlen inside a minute, which was quickly followed up by a second from Marcus Thuram seven minutes in.
Ramy Bensebaini’s penalty then put the result beyond doubt 73 minutes in, with Andre Silva’s 81st-minute effort having come as little more than a consolation.

Plea linked with Man United
Plea’s opener on Saturday was his 9th league goal of the season, putting the Frenchman to an impressive 16 goal contributions in 23 Bundesliga outings this term.
Such a solid record has, unsurprisingly, seemingly attracted the interest of a Premier League powerhouse.
The club in question, as mentioned above, is Manchester United.
A recent report from the Evening Standard, citing Sky Germany, claims that the Red Devils have made contact with the 27-year-old’s representatives, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said to be desperate to add to his attack this summer.
The same piece from the Standard, this time citing ESPN, adds that Lille-born Plea could be available for as little as £25m.
And given the fact that Ed Woodward has previously spoken out against speculation surrounding the transfer of players for ‘hundreds of millions of pounds’ this summer due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a relatively cheap option in Plea could come as the ideal signing for United.
