Man United have lowest points total at Christmas since 1989

Watford see off Man United

Sunday’s early Premier League kick-off saw Watford play host to Manchester United.

United headed into the tie in pretty decent form, with the Red Devils having picked up impressive wins over Tottenham and Manchester City in recent weeks.

As for Watford, they began the day dead bottom of the Premier League, and the Hornets were also without a single league win at Vicarage Road this campaign.

However, despite the two sides’ contrasting form, it would be Nigel Pearson’s hosts who emerged from the tie with all three points.

The relegation-battling outfit took the lead in the 50th minute, after a catastrophic David de Gea error.

Troy Deeney then doubled Watford’s lead four minutes later from the penalty spot, after Aaron Wan-Bissaka chopped down Ismaila Sarr.

Man United’s poor 2019/20

After limping to a rather embarrassing 2-0 defeat vs 20th placed Watford, a rather worrying stat has emerged concerning Man United.

According to Sky Sports Statto, United have amassed their lowest points total in a league campaign heading into Christmas since 1989.

The same tweet would also highlight the Manchester powerhouse’s struggles against the sides below them.

United have not lost in the league this term when they have faced teams above them.

However, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have taken on teams below them, they have already been handed five defeats.
