Revised Lukaku chant
Manchester United fans have been accused of singing a racist chant about star striker Romelu Lukaku. The chant has rung out from the terraces in the opening weeks of the Premier League season and mentions the size of the player’s penis.
These lyrics are based on racial stereotypes and anti-discrimination group Kick It Out called the chant ‘offensive and discriminatory’. While United fans might argue that it was good-natured, there can be little argument that these stereotypes are backward. Surely they can think of a better chant for a free-scoring world-class forward.
United fan Pete Boyle posted proposed new lyrics to the chant with his tongue firmly in his cheek. See below.
Belgian scoring genius,
We can’t sing about his penis,
We’re politically correct,
He’s offside when erect
It’s still running pic.twitter.com/SgXY1vxAS2

We doubt Kick It Out will appreciate this version much either. It will be interesting to see if United fans continue to sing it. It’s split opinion with some finding it embarrassing and regressive and others thinking it’s simply funny.
Brilliant start for Lukaku
United paid an initial £75 million for Lukaku in the summer and it’s looking like money well spent. The former Everton has hit seven goals in seven games in all competitions for the Red Devils, including five in the Premier League.
The provider of an assist in the 4-0 win over the Toffees at the weekend, Lukaku has proven to be a superb focal point for United’s array of speedy attackers to work off. They’ve already scored 16 goals in five games.
Having bagged a paltry 54 goals in his first campaign, it looks like Jose Mourinho has fixed the goal-shy attack. He’s also turned Old Trafford into a fortress and is closing in on a record held by Sir Alex Ferguson.
