Man United dealt latest blow as Nemanja Matic ruled out of Serbia fixtures with injury

Mladen Krstajić, manager of the Serbian national team, has this evening confirmed that Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is injured.

Wolves 2-1 Man United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils travelled to Molineux on Saturday night, for an FA Cup quarter-final clash.

The Manchester giants headed into proceedings hoping for an immediate bounce-back performance, having disappointed en route to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Premier League top-4 rivals Arsenal in their previous outing.

However, when all was said and done in the West Midlands, it was Wolves who emerged victorious, to secure their spot in the FA Cup semi-final draw.

Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota did the damage for the hosts, with a 95th-minute Marcus Rashford strike having proved scant consolation for visitors United:

And, as per the aforementioned announcement from Mladen Krstajić this evening, the Red Devils’ result was not the only negative to have come from their trip to Wolves.

Nemanja Matic, who played 86 minutes of Saturday’s clash, picked up an injury at Molineux, which has since seen him ruled out of his country’s upcoming meetings with Germany and Portugal.

Speaking in an interview with the Serbian FA’s official website a short time ago, Eagles’ boss Krstajić revealed:

‘Nemanja Matic will not play in Wolfsburg, nor in Lisbon.’

‘He played the last match in the club but did not stay in the field until the end.’

Matic now joins Manchester United teammates Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw in having been forced out of their respective international squads due to injury problems.

Victor Lindelof, meanwhile, turned down his Sweden call-up for ‘personal reasons’.
