Crystal Palace vs Man United
It’s been a terrible few weeks for Crystal Palace.
And things may get worse before they get better as the Eagles take on Manchester United next weekend in the Premier League.
Palace are only out of the bottom three on goal difference. And Eagles fans will fear they’ll drop into the drop zone next weekend as they have a major defensive crisis for the match at Old Trafford.
Injuries have plagued Roy Hodgson’s squad, and following Sunday’s defeat to Tottenham, another defender joined the walking wounded.
James Tomkins was subbed out the Spurs game in the final stages with “severe cramp”.
Crystal Palace have no defenders
If Tomkins doesn’t recover in time for the Man United game, who will Palace be able to field at the back?
Hodgson would usually be able to call on Timothy Fosu-Mensah, however he’s banned from playing next weekend as per the terms of his loan deal from Man United.
Elsewhere, Mamadou Sakho still hasn’t recovered from his calf problems. Joel Ward, Martin Kelly, Scott Dann and Jeffrey Schlupp are all injured too.
But it’s not just defenders who are injured for Palace. Wilfried Zaha, Bakary Sako, Yohan Cabaye and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all injured as well.
Wins for Tottenham & Man United
Tottenham beat Palace courtesy of an 89th minute winner from Harry Kane.
Kane found space from a late corner at Selhurst Park to head home at the back post.
The win pushed Tottenham into fourth in the Premier League.
As for Man United, they beat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Willian fired Chelsea in front on the half hour following an excellent counter attack.
But two minutes later Romelu Lukaku ended his goal drought against the top six drawing United level before the break.
With 15 minutes to go Lukaku turned provider. His cross was headed into the Chelsea net by sub Jesse Lingard.
