Man United could sell Lukaku without a replacement/Bruno Fernandes not a target – Simon Stone

The reliable Simon Stone of BBC Sport has this evening provided an update on Manchester United’s work on the transfer market.

Old Trafford arrivals

To this point in the summer, United have added a pair of new faces to add to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

These have come in the form of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The last 24 hours, meanwhile, have seen widespread reports in agreement that the Red Devils are set to imminently seal a world-record (for a defender) deal for Leicester City stalwart Harry Maguire.

Dybala deal collapses

United’s signing of Maguire was expected to be followed by the addition of Paulo Dybala from Juventus, in a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku.

The last couple of hours, though, have seen the Manchester giants opt against pursuing their interest in the Argentine, amid concerns over Dybala’s desire to play for the club:

Lukaku out/No Fernandes?

And, on the back of what will no doubt be considered a major blow in the eyes of most United fans, Simon Stone has since provided updates on the club’s plans for the rest of the window.

First off, despite his potential move to Turin having fallen through, Romelu Lukaku could still depart Old Trafford.

Surprisingly, though, the Belgian’s exit would not necessarily lead to a new striker joining the Red Devils.

In addition, there is further bad news for the United faithful, as Stone confirms that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. are not planning a swoop for Sporting CP midfield standout Bruno Fernandes:
