Man United confirm return of sidelined defender for League Cup clash with West Ham

Man United vs West Ham

Manchester United are in League Cup action on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils are set to play host to West Ham United in a 3rd round tie.

Man United are yet to win any silverware under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. So, whilst the United faithful likely have their eyes on bigger prizes such as the Premier League and Champions League, this competition should represent one of their better chances to win a trophy in 2021/22, ending their barren spell which currently dates back to 2017.

Phil Jones set to return for Man United vs West Ham

Ahead of the game, Man United have confirmed that a fringe star is set to return.

Phil Jones has not been named in a United first-team matchday squad since January of 2020, in part due to a knee injury which saw him miss 78 games.

Now though, as confirmed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Jones will be in the squad on Wednesday.

When discussing Jones, Solskjaer had this to say:

“I’m so happy for Phil. He has completed two 90 minutes for the Under-23s, played some minutes behind closed doors and he’s got no reaction on his knee. He’s been working really hard.”
