“Football Einsteins”

Manchester United returned to winning ways at Northampton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford secured a 3-1 win which stops a run of three defeats that all occurred in the same week.

Mourinho was under pressure against Northampton but ironically, the draw that pits United against Manchester City in the next round may actually increase the focus on The Special One.

United now face a very tough run of games at the end of October, which includes Liverpool, Fenerbahce, Chelsea and Manchester City in succession.

“They tried to delete…”

Jose Mourinho did manage to criticise the referee after the Northampton win, despite Manchester United’s 3-1 win.

And, a separate interview has gone viral of Mourinho at Northampton where he appeared to lash out at many of his critics in the past week or so.

It is worth noting that Mourinho did not give a press conference after the EFL Cup game, as he was not contractually obliged to.

But, the “Football Einsteins” comment has been picked up by many on social media, predominantly as a way of criticising Jose Mourinho.

“Football is full of Einsteins”

These comments came on MUTV and it feels like this was Jose Mourinho drawing a line under the three defeats in a week to Manchester City, Feyenoord and Watford.

It also appears that Mourinho is trying to draw the club’s fans and the players into a unified force against the critics.

Love him or hate Mourinho, you have to admire how he has grouped all the critics together, both of himself and Manchester United.

The full Einsteins quote from Jose Mourinho:

“I know that some football Einsteins – football is full of Einsteins – I know that they tried to delete 16 years of my career. They tried to delete an unbelievable history of Man United football club and to focus on a bad week with three bad results. But that’s the new football – it’s full of Einsteins.”
