A top target
Manchester United will once again look at Toby Alderweireld as the transfer market approaches.
That’s according to Standard Sport.
They note that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the defender.
Mourinho had been desperate to bring in a defender during the summer window, but various targets were vetoed by the board.
The United board were unwilling to pay the £60 million Tottenham Hotspur wanted for Alderweireld.
Ed Woodward also held firm on any possible player swap involving Anthony Martial.
Now however, Spurs may be forced to play ball.
That’s because Alderweireld would be available for £24.5 million in the summer.
Spurs may well decide it’s a better option to sell him in the winter for around £40 million.
Mourinho has money
The Belgian defender is Mourinho’s preferred target, but the United boss has back-ups as well.
He knows there is money to spend, and that the board will back him.

However, much like the summer, if the United hierarchy don’t like the targets Mourinho has suggested, they will veto them.
That could cause more unrest within the club, especially given Mourinho’s precarious position.

It seems Mourinho is safe for now, with Woodward admitting he will back the manager and expects things to get better.
