Man City’s Sergio Aguero may not play again until next season – Guardian

A report in the English press on Tuesday has cast doubt over Sergio Aguero’s involvement in the remainder of Manchester City’s Champions League campaign.

Man City vs Lyon

Manchester City took on Real Madrid last week, as they went in search of a spot in the Champions League’s quarter-finals.

The Sky Blues headed into the clash boasting a 2-1 advantage, though City were no doubt well aware that their best would be required to down Los Blancos again.

And, thanks in no small part to a helping hand from Raphael Varane, Pep Guardiola’s men eventually emerged with another 2-1 win.

The Manchester powerhouse, as a result, are now preparing to face Lyon in the competition’s quarter-finals this coming Saturday.

Pep Guardiola has never managed to guide the Citizens beyond the last-eight, having crashed out at this stage in both of the last two seasons.

And whilst Lyon may, on paper, appear a fairly handy draw when compared to some of the big names left in the Champions League, it’s worth noting that, across a pair of meetings between the sides in 2018, City were unable to garner a victory.

Aguero to miss rest of Man City’s Champions League run?

So, with Lyon no doubt set to prove a stern test for the Citizens, Pep Guardiola will obviously be keen to have all of his star players available for Saturday’s one-off clash.

However, if the latest word from The Guardian proves true, then Sergio Aguero looks set to miss not only the Lyon clash, but also any further potential outings in store for Man City this season.

Aguero picked up a knee injury vs Burnley late in June, which subsequently ruled him out of City’s meeting with Real Madrid last week.

And though Guardiola recently expressed his hope that Aguero would be fit to return in the case that Man City reached the Champions League’s quarter-finals, The Guardian are now reporting that the Argentine has all but resigned himself to missing the remainder of his side’s European campaign.
