Pulling no punches
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been slammed by one of his former co-workers today over the treatment of his players at Bayern Munich.
The Catalan boss was pretty successful at the club and dominated the Bundesliga as the club are expected to do.
Though, all was seemingly not as it seemed with the latest comments from Bayern’s club doctor.
Muller-Wohlfahrt, Bayern’s doctor, has suggested that Guardiola ‘neglected the medical profession’ and wasn’t concerned about the recovery of his players.
Instead, he just wanted to relieve them of the pain so that they could continue playing through the injury.
‘He [Guardiola] completely neglected the medical profession, Muller-Wohlfahrt explained to ZDF.
‘It was not about the recovery of the players, but only freedom from pain. It was not about the healing of injuries, it was completely against my philosophy.
‘He underestimated me and wanted to make me a commander.
‘He overestimated himself and thinks he knows better than anybody, but I was too big for him. I had a wonderful status at the club.
‘He could not bear that I was the same as him, so I had to be trimmed and he used every opportunity to dupe me.’
It wasn’t just his treatment of the players as Muller-Wohlfahrt that angered the doctor though, he wasn’t very complimentary on the manager’s personality.
‘I think Pep Guardiola is a person with a weak self-confidence who does everything to hide that from other people,’ he added.
“Because of that, he seems to live in a constant fear. Not so much of defeats but of the loss of power and authority.”
