Man City’s Ilkay Gundogan tests positive for Covid-19 & will miss 3 matches

Gundogan tests positive for Covid-19

Manchester City have confirmed on Monday that one of their players has, unfortunately, tested positive for Covid-19.

In a post across the club’s social media platforms, the Sky Blues announced that Ilkay Gundogan has contracted the virus. It is not revealed if the German is showcasing any symptoms at present.

City add that Gundogan is now observing a 10-day period of self-isolation, in accordance with UK government protocols:

The news on their midfield star comes just weeks after the Manchester powerhouse confirmed that Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez had also tested positive for Covid-19.

Gundogan to miss three games for Man City

Gundogan’s positive test, of course, means that he is set to play no part in City’s next outing.

This clash comes in the form of a trip to Wolves on Monday evening, the Citizens’ first competitive tie of the season.

You can find out how to watch Monday’s Molineux matchup here.

But with Gundogan now set for 10 days of self isolation, he will also miss another two of Man City’s upcoming fixtures.

The Sky Blues are set to face off with Bournemouth this coming Thursday, in a League Cup clash at the Vitality.

Pep Guardiola’s men will then welcome Leicester City to the Etihad on September 27th, for a Premier League tie.

As such, given the fact that all 3 of the aforementioned outings come within a week of Gundogan testing positive for Covid-19, he will obviously have to sit them out at home.
