Man City’s Ilkay Gundogan forced to depart Germany camp with illness

The German Football Association have this evening confirmed that Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan has left the country’s camp, ahead of their clash with Northern Ireland.

Germany’s latest test

Jogi Low’s men are set to visit Windsor Park on Monday night, in search of an immediate bounce-back result.

The Germans were put to the sword by 4 goals to 2 at home to the Netherlands last time out, in their latest Euro 2020 qualifier:

Heading into tomorrow night’s matchup, Northern Ireland are the surprise Group C leaders, with Michael O’Neill’s men having picked up 4 wins from 4 to this point in their campaign.

Germany, meanwhile, sit in 2nd-spot, 3 points clear of the Netherlands, albeit with a game more played.

Gundogan misses out

And, as per the aforementioned announcement this evening, Die Mannschaft’s hopes of retaking control of the Group C table have been dented, by the late departure of a key member of Jogi Low’s squad.

The player set to miss out tomorrow night is Ilkay Gundogan.

As confirmed via a post across the DFB’s social media platforms, the 28-year-old has come down with a cold, resulting in his return home:

It remains to be seen whether Gundogan’s illness will affect his chances of featuring in Manchester City’s next outing.

The Sky Blues are set to travel to Carrow Road to take on Norwich next Saturday, for the respective sides’ 5th Premier League fixture of the campaign.
