Man City’s Foden on Sterling: ‘He is a role model and he helps me out a lot’

Preston 0-Man City 3

Manchester City began their 2019/20 League Cup campaign on Tuesday.

City are the current holders, after beating Chelsea in last season’s final.

Man City also won the LC in 2018, and are now looking to retain it for a third successive season.

City’s defence of their title began away to Championship outfit Preston North End.

The match started pretty slowly, but Pep Guardiola’s side would find themselves 3-0 up by half-time, thanks to strikes from Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and an own goal.

Foden on Sterling

Phil Foden would also be handed his first start of the season vs Preston.

Foden looks to have heaps of potential, but the young midfielder has found his first-team chances somewhat limited so far this season.

But with City now fighting in the Champions League, League Cup and Premier League, Foden should hopefully be getting himself a few more minutes in the coming months.

After the Preston clash, Foden has been praising teammate Raheem Sterling.

Foden spoke about how Sterling is a role model, and how the winger helps him out a lot:

“Every time I watch him, I think ‘wow’ and he is a better player every time I see him.

“He has got a lot more to come and that is what is good about him, he is still young and improving and wanting to improve.

“He is a role model and he helps me out a lot and I am just really happy for him.

“In the game and in training and overall, he helps me with my game, giving me tips and what is what for a young lad coming through.” As quoted by Goal.
