Man City injury updates ahead of Basel clash

Journalist Simon Stone has this afternoon provided updates on the Manchester City injury front, ahead of the Citizens’ clash with Basel tomorrow evening.

Pep Guardiola’s men are set to welcome the Swiss champions to the Etihad for the second-leg of their Champions League round-16 tie, with the Citizens having made short work of their opponents in the first-leg en route to a 4-0 drubbing.

With City fresh off the back of a hectic 7 days during which they earned consecutive 3-0 victories over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and Premier League, and a comfortable 1-0 win over Chelsea, a number of the Sky Blues’ first-choice stars are expected to be rested for Basel’s visit to Manchester.

City revealed a number of positive updates on the injury front yesterday evening, with news that all of Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph and, crucially, Benjamin Mendy, had returned to training:

However, as per a number of further updates via BBC journalist Simon Stone this afternoon, today’s team news is not as positive for the Citizens, with all of Fernandinho, Fabian Delph (who only returned to training yesterday) and David Silva having been missing from the club’s training session this morning:

Benjamin Mendy, though, completed his second training session in two days, as the Frenchman ramps up his recovery following 6 months on the sidelines with a ruptured ACL.
