Gundogan’s time in Manchester
Ilkay Gundogan has spent the past three years honing his craft with Manchester City.
The German made the switch to England from Borussia Dortmund for a fee believed to be in the region of £24m.
Gundogan has since featured 114 times across all competitions for the Citizens, in which he has scored 17 and assisted 17.
Gundogan’s time in the English top-flight has also been filled with silverware. In his three years with the club, the midfielder has won two league titles, two League Cups, an FA Cup and a Community Shield.
Gundogan’s contract talks
However, Gundogan’s current City deal will expire at the end of the 2019/20 season.
And, despite his contract being set to run out in just under a year, the two parties have still yet to agree to a new deal.
Back in June, Gundogan gave this update on his future, in which he addressed alleged interest from Borussia Dortmund:
“I would know about that [interest from Dortmund], I know nothing, I have not spoken to anyone.
“There will be talks in the summer and then we’ll see.
“I’m not dissatisfied with Manchester City and that’s why I would not say that I really want to leave because the club wants to extend my contract.” As quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
Now, according to ESPN, Gundogan and Man City are set to resume contract talks in the near future.
ESPN are also claiming that Gundogan’s intention is to stay at City.
But he will now face some added competition in the midfield, as the Citizens have recently completed the signing of Rodri from Atletico Madrid:
Done deal! Welcome to the Champions, Rodri
