Martinez to City?
Manchester City are set to sign Bayern Munich star Javi Martinez, according to reports breaking on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola was believed to be drafting in a mystery centre-half and it looks as though it’s Martinez. The pair have worked together before during Guardiola’s time as Bayern manager. Martinez impressed with his versatility.
BT Sport journalist Anthony Harris regularly covers City and claims that Martinez and Dani Alves will have medicals with the club next week. Alves’ transfer from Juventus has been anticipated for weeks now.

We await further reports of a deal. At this moment in time, it’s not exactly clear as to why Bayern would sell unless they were given an offer they couldn’t refuse for the experienced 28-year-old.
Holding role option
Martinez can also play in a holding role and Guardiola has been keen to freshen up options in that position. Both Yaya Toure and Fernandinho are in their thirties. The Spaniard has had injury troubles in the past but has put them behind him in recent months, playing 37 games in all competitions last season.
