Riyad Mahrez & Leicester
Another day, and Riyad Mahrez continues to steer clear of Leicester City.
On Saturday night in the Premier League, Leicester take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
It’s seems pretty clear that Mahrez will miss the Man City game as the Algerian winger hasn’t turned up for training all this week.
Moreover, Mahrez has recently missed matches against Everton and Swansea City.
Mahrez will return to Leicester on one condition
On Thursday the Times have dug into how Mahrez could end his exile from the King Power Stadium.
The broadsheet reveals that Mahrez is looking to “guarantee” he’ll be able to leave Leicester this summer.
Mahrez is will to conclude his standoff if one of the two options are fulfilled:
He wants the club to provide an assurance that they will not stand in his way if (Man) City, or anyone else, want to sign him. Another solution could be to agree a release clause.
Of course, that update may upset Leicester fans.
Supporters may argue that Mahrez is a victim of having a bad agent. After Leicester won the Premier League title, Mahrez signed a new four-year deal with the Foxes.
What’s now clear is that Mahrez didn’t insist on having an exit clause in that deal. Surely that’s a decision the winger now regrets.
So will Leicester acquiesce to Mahrez’s fresh demands? That’s unclear, and many football fans may be urging the Foxes owners to reject Mahrez’s position, as the alternative would be to show that player power still trumps contracts in football.
Good for Man City
Either way, the latest Mahrez news is good for Man City.
Firstly, they’ll face a weakened Leicester side this weekend.
Second, the update reveals how Mahrez is still focused on trying to play for Pep Guardiola.
