Man City reportedly ready to open contract negotiations with Kevin De Bruyne & Raheem Sterling

Man City eyeing contract talks with key men

Manchester City were recently hit with a European ban that will keep them out of the Champions League for the next two seasons.

With the CL arguably the most coveted prize in club football, City fans may have feared that their top stars would look to pursue a move away from the club in order to get European football again.

In the wake of their European ban, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling did an interview with Spanish outlet AS, and was asked about his interest in joining Real Madrid, to which the winger responded:

“How do I answer that one? Is the camera live or is it just taking pictures?

“No one knows what the future will hold. I am a player and I am always open to challenges but right now my challenge is at Manchester City. In the future, hopefully, who knows…” As quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

And whilst the Man City faithful probably won’t have been too keen to read that last sentence from Sterling, they should be much more excited to read what the Daily Mail has recently reported.

According to the Mail, Man City are aiming to open contract negotiations with a list of star players, headed by Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne.

The report from the Mail claims that City want to begin talks after the club’s Champions League second-leg clash vs Real Madrid.

Man United vs Man City

Before Madrid, the Citizens have a Manchester derby to deal with.

City will travel to Old Trafford in Sunday’s late Premier League kick-off.

This tie should hold more importance to United, as they are still in an extremely tight race for 4th place.

Man City, on the other hand, do not have an awful lot to play for other than bragging rights, as they are currently 25 points off table-topping Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola would provide an update on Kevin De Bruyne ahead of the Man United game. Read what he had to say here.
