Man City reportedly making good progress on Kevin De Bruyne contract

De Bruyne’s Man City stint

2019/20 proved a rather disappointing year for Manchester City.

The Citizens finished the campaign a staggering 18 points adrift of Premier League champions Liverpool.

They also failed to defend their FA Cup crown, and were once again knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

One man who was at his best despite Man City’s poor season, though, was Kevin De Bruyne.

The former Chelsea man enjoyed arguably his best year in a City shirt, notching 13 goals and 20 assists across 35 league outings:

Such impressive exploits saw De Bruyne become the first male Manchester City player to win the Professional Footballers’ Association’s (PFA) Player of the Year award back in September.

The 29-year-old was also named the Champions League Men’s Midfielder of the Season earlier this month:

De Bruyne to sign new deal?

With De Bruyne such an integral member of City’s setup, news that he is inching towards penning a fresh contract will no doubt come as music to the ears of the Sky Blues faithful.

The Belgian had suggested earlier this year that he may be forced to consider his future if the club’s European ban was upheld.

But with the ban in question since overturned, it is now being reported by the Daily Mail’s Jack Gaughan that Man City are making good progress towards a new contract for their star midfielder.

De Bruyne is currently tied down at the Etihad until 2023.

But the report from Gaughan claims that the gifted midfielder is keen to sign a two-year extension to his current deal.

This would suggest that KDB is prepared to finish his career with the Citizens, as he would be 34 by the time such a deal expires:
