Man City & Raheem Sterling react to Sergio Aguero’s penalty apology following Chelsea defeat

Both Manchester City and Raheem Sterling have taken to social media, to respond to the apology message issued by Sergio Aguero on Saturday.

Alonso strikes at the death

Pep Guardiola’s men were of course back in action a little less than 24 hours ago.

The Sky Blues welcomed Chelsea to the Etihad, for a preview of the highly anticipated upcoming Champions League final showdown between the clubs.

Hosts City headed into proceedings aware that a victory would have seen them officially crowned as Premier League champions.

When all was said and done, however, it was Chelsea who, for the 2nd time in the space of a fortnight, got the better of Guardiola and co.

A fine 2nd-half performance saw the Pensioners battle back from a goal down to eventually emerge on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline, after Marcos Alonso added to Hakim Ziyech’s equaliser deep into injury time:

‘Only ourselves to blame’

The eventual outcome in Manchester, however, could so easily have been different, had Sergio Aguero proven more clinical late in the first-half.

Just minutes after Raheem Sterling opened the evening’s scoring, legendary hitman Aguero had the chance to put City two goals to the good from the penalty spot.

The soon-to-be free agent, however, saw his Panenka attempt comfortably gathered by Edouard Mendy, handing Chelsea a lifeline on the stroke of the interval:

With his mistake, in the end, having proven so costly for City, it came as little surprise when Aguero opted to take to social media in the aftermath of the clash, to issue an apology:

Neither his club, nor attacking teammate Raheem Sterling, however, appear to harbour any ill feeling towards the Argentine. Both took to the comments section of Aguero’s Tweet, to issue morale-boosting responses:
