Man City provide explanation for Ederson being removed from squad to face Zagreb

Dinamo Zagreb vs Man City

Manchester City played their final Champions League group game of the season on Wednesday evening.

City traveled to Croatia to take on Dinamo Zagreb in what was a fairly meaningless game for the Citizens.

Man City had already secured their spot in the Champions League last 16 in their last outing, and City also made sure no matter what their result was vs Zagreb, that they would top their group.

However, Wednesday’s tie did have significant importance to the hosts.

Zagreb began the day 3rd in Group C, one point adrift of 2nd placed Shakhtar Donetsk.

So, to qualify, Zagreb had to beat Man City, and then hope that Shakhtar lost or drew with 4th placed Atalanta in the other Group C tie taking place on Wednesday.

Why Ederson was removed from matchday squad

With the tie having little to no meaning for Man City, it wasn’t too surprising to see the Sky Blues name a fairly weak squad to take on the Croatian outfit.

The likes of Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson were all named on the bench for City.

But Ederson would not make it to kick-off as a member of the matchday squad.

City revealed via their official Twitter account that Ederson was feeling unwell, so he was replaced in the squad to take on Zagreb by veteran keeper Scott Carson.
