Riyad Mahrez joins Man City
This week it finally happened. Riyad Mahrez left Leicester City to join Man City.
It’s a deal that has been in the pipeline for months, as Man City missed out on Mahrez in January.
The Sky Blues paid 60 million pounds on the Algerian winger. But will Mahrez even get into Pep Guardiola’s starting XI?
City already have David Silva, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva on their books.
It feels like Mahrez will be rotated with those stars throughout the course of the 2018-19 season.
Mahrez on Harry Maguire’s future at Leicester
Mahrez held his first press conference as a Man City player on Thursday.
During the Q&A, Mahrez spoke about Leicester City, claiming “Yes, I left on good terms”.
Mahrez was also asked for his opinion on Leicester and England centre-half Harry Maguire.
Maguire has become a cult hero this summer in England after his performances at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
And Mahrez believes that Maguire can play at a higher level than the Foxes:
‘H’ [Maguire] is a very good player; he has shown that since the day he came to Leicester and with the season he had last year.
It didn’t surprise me to see how he has done at the World Cup. Of course he deserves to play higher but Leicester are a big club as well, so it’s him who has to decide and we will see.
Maguire’s new Foxes deal
Earlier this week reports came out that Leicester are set to reward Maguire with a new deal at the King Power Stadium.
Maguire is under contract with the Foxes until 2022. Yet, in a preemptive move aimed at locking down the defender, Leicester are ready to give Maguire are significant pay rise.
The defender could earn £120,000 a week at Leicester.
