Man City linked with Denis Zakaria/ Phil Foden expected to start vs Iceland

Man City linked with Denis Zakaria/ Phil Foden expected to start vs Iceland

Several updates concerning Manchester City have emerged online over the last 24 hours.

Man City linked with Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder

The first concerns a potential transfer for the Citizens.

With Fernandinho now in the twilight years of his career, and Rodri perhaps not as suited to Pep Guardiola’s style as the tactician may have hoped, Man City could probably do with some reinforcements in the middle of the park.

And, as per a recent report from Italy, the Sky Blues are indeed eyeing up fresh legs in this very area.

According to Calciomercato, Manchester City are ‘on the trail’ of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, Denis Zakaria.

However, the same report also credits German giants Bayern Munich with an interest in the Swiss star, who has reportedly decided against renewing his Gladbach contract, which runs until 2022.

Foden to start for England vs Iceland

The next piece of City news surrounds one of their current crop of stars.

Phil Foden faced a short exile from the England squad after breaking Covid-19 rules in Iceland back in September.

The midfielder has since regained some favour with Gareth Southgate, though, with the England boss having named him in his latest Three Lions squad.

Foden went on to play no part in the country’s loss to Belgium, and only came off the bench vs the Republic of Ireland

Now, though, with the Three Lions set to face Iceland on Wednesday evening in an altogether meaningless clash, Foden is expected to be afforded a start by Southgate:
