As per a report from Goal.com this afternoon, Manchester City are the latest club to express an interest in Bayer Leverkusen prodigy Leon Bailey.
Bailey, a 20-year-old Jamaican winger, only made the move to the BayArena in January of last year for a fee of 20 million Euro, following links with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United.
The pacy starlet caught the eye with his performances in the Europa League for Belgian outfit Genk last season, and has racked up 12 goals and 6 assists in 32 domestic appearances to this point in the campaign with Leverkusen (25 starts).
However, despite having not yet even completed his first full season in the Bundesliga, Bailey has already been heavily linked with a departure from Germany, with a number of Europe’s biggest clubs known to maintain an interest in his services.
Reports stemming from England earlier this year claimed that Chelsea had emerged as the leading contenders for his signature, with the Daily Mail having even gone as far as to suggest that the Blues had seen a 25 million Euro January offer rejected by Leverkusen.
However, in the months since, the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal have been just as heavily touted as potential destinations for Bailey, with the Gunners rumoured to have been tracking the progress of the winger for several seasons now.
And, as per the aforementioned report from Goal.com this afternoon, yet another of the Premier League’s giants, in the form of recently-crowned champions Manchester City, have today joined the race for the Leverkusen starlet.
Pep Guardiola is known to be in the market for reinforcements out wide, with the Citizens having come up empty-handed after a heavy pursuit of Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez in January.
And Bailey has now seemingly been added to the list of attackers shortlisted by City as summer targets, though Goal also claim that PSG’s Kylian Mbappe remains the dream signing for the Sky Blues.
