Ferran Soriano vs Manchester United
Man City’s Ferran Soriano has given a fresh interview with Spanish news outlet Infobae over the weekend.
In the Q&A, Soriano faced accusations that Man City have bought the Premier League.
The Sky Blues have spent significant sums of cash since Pep Guardiola took over from Manuel Pellegrini.
However, for Soriano, he believes that City’s spending has been fair. And he was also quick to bring up Man United’s record in the transfer market:
If you look at the 10 most expensive signings of all time, none of them play for City.
Do we have Pogba, Lukaku, Neymar or Mbappe? Of course, we made an important investment in the transfer market because we had to change the age of the squad.
But all of the players we bought would now be worth £100m. And, in addition, Manchester City now earns a lot of money.
In the last three years, we have not spent more than we have raised economically, so I see no reason for criticism.
Stoke City vs Man City
Champions-elect Manchester City travel to Stoke for their Premier League clash on Monday night.
City suffered a surprise 2-1 home defeat to Basel last week in the Champions League. Gabriel Jesus gave City the lead before the Swiss side turned the game around.
Despite defeat, Pep Guardiola’s side progress to the quarter finals, having won the first leg 4-0 in Switzerland.
City’s current Premier League away form is questionable, with one win in their last four league games on the road.
Last time out Stoke held Southampton to a 0-0 draw at St Mary’s. Paul Lambert’s side have drawn four and lost one of their last five.
City decimated Stoke when the two sides met at the Etihad in October’s reverse fixture.
Gabriel Jesus (2), Raheem Sterling, David Silva, Fernandinho, Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva were all on the scoresheet in the 7-2 victory. Mame Biram Diouf scored a consolation for what was then Mark Hughes’ Stoke side.
