Man City confirm Laporte & Mahrez have tested positive for Covid-19

Manchester City have, on Monday, confirmed that two of the club’s senior players have tested positive for Covid-19.

Man City duo positive for Covid-19

The pair in question come in the form of centre-back Aymeric Laporte and winger Riyad Mahrez.

In a post across the club’s social media platforms and official website on Monday morning, City confirmed that the duo are observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.

It is added that the players are not displaying any symptoms of the virus at present.

It is also worth noting that neither Mahrez or Laporte have been away on international duty over the last couple of weeks, meaning the Citizens stars will not be forced into an extended quarantine period for reentering the UK.

Since City confirmed the news, Aymeric Laporte has taken to Twitter to express his gratitude for the messages of support sent in his direction:

Wolves vs Man City

Man City’s first league game of the season will take place on September 21st.

Had Pep Guardiola’s men been scheduled to kick off their campaign the weekend beginning September 12th, along with the majority of the Premier League’s clubs, the involvement of Mahrez and Laporte would likely have been thrown into doubt.

But with City not set to travel to Wolves for another two weeks after being granted a late start to the season following their European run in 2019/20, both players, all being well, should have finished their respective periods in quarantine.

Current UK government guidelines state that one should isolate for 10 days after having tested positive for Covid-19.
