Man City can still have ‘unbelievable season’ despite conceding Premier League to Liverpool – KDB

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne has recently discussed how his side can still have an ‘unbelievable’ campaign, despite missing out on the Premier League title to Liverpool.

Liverpool crowned champions

The previous two seasons saw Manchester City dominate the Premier League.

The Citizens garnered a record-breaking 100 points in 2017/18, with an equally impressive 98 points earned last term.

Liverpool would challenge City until the final day of last season, with the Reds having eventually missed out on domestic glory by a solitary point.

However, in 2019/20, Man City’s league form has derailed massively. A combination of injury woes, departures and defensive frailties saw City’s attempts to retain their crown crumble halfway through the campaign.

And it would be the Citizens who went on to inadvertently hand Liverpool their first-ever Premier League title earlier this week.

Pep Guardiola’s men fell to defeat at Chelsea on Thursday, a result which left 2nd-placed City a staggering 23 points adrift of Liverpool with just seven games to play.

De Bruyne on Man City’s season

After such a disappointing title defence, many may be of the opinion that the Man City’s season has been a failure.

However, one man who seemingly doesn’t agree with such an assessment is Kevin De Bruyne.

As the Belgian was quick to point out in a recent interview, the Sky Blues can still win both the FA Cup and Champions League in 2019/20.

And the midfield maestro is of the opinion that, if City do go on to clinch these trophies, it would mark an unbelievable season:

“I think in comparison with a lot of other teams we are doing all right.

“We are still second, so that means after Liverpool we are the second best team, and I think we have still got big chances in the FA Cup and Champions League.

“Imagine if we come out after winning these cups, it will be an unbelievable season. We have got a lot to play for and look forward to it. There is no time for us to get down.”
