Liverpool vs Manchester City
The anticipation is already building ahead of Wednesday night’s monster match.
Liverpool were drawn against Man City in the Champions League quarterfinals.
From a Premier League perspective, the draw is a bit of a downer. There were five English teams in the UCL last-16, but they’ll only be one representative left in the semifinals.
Will it be Liverpool or Man City? Of course, Liverpool are the only side who have beaten Man City in the Premier League this season.
Graeme Souness: Man City will beat Liverpool
In his weekly column in the Sunday Times, Graeme Souness explains why City should have the edge over Liverpool.
While accepting that Liverpool have the stars to turn over the Sky Blues, Souness feels compelled to back Pep Guardiola’s men:
I expect City to go through and I have a sneaky feeling that they can go on and win the tournament this year. They’re a team not showing inferiority on any level against anyone.
If you picked a team from the 22 players who will start, you’re picking more City players.
Vincent Kompany vs Man United’s Rio Ferdinand
Aside from plumping for City over Liverpool, Souness also argued that Man City’s Vincent Kompany could be considering a better defender than Man United icon Rio Ferdinand:
Without his injury problems of recent years, (Kompany) would have been in my selection from the Premier League title-winning teams that I picked in last week’s column, ahead of Rio Ferdinand. He’s a top-class performer, a superb defender.
"It would mean the world to our fans."
"I've lived in Manchester long enough to understand how important it is to them, and how important it is to the other team that is doesn't happen."
