Man City announce Ferran Torres signing/Citizens to profit if Man United sign Sancho

Manchester City have this evening confirmed the signing of Ferran Torres from Valencia, with the Sky Blues also set to benefit from another high-profile transfer which appears to be inching closer to completion.

City’s first summer signing

Torres, a 20-year-old winger who generally operates on the right, is a product of Valencia’s youth system.

After making his way through the youth ranks at the Mestalla, the Spanish youth international was first handed the chance to impress as part of Los Che’s first-team setup in 2017.

And the seasons since saw Torres go on to establish himself as one of La Liga’s most highly regarded young stars.

Torres possesses a whole host of attacking talents, combining pace, quick feet, the ability to ghost past opposing defenders, and an eye for a killer pass.

This past season saw the gifted starlet play a key role in Valencia’s frontline, with Torres, despite his tender years, having racked up 6 goals and 7 assists across 43 appearances in all competitions.

The problem for Los Che, however, had long stood as the contract situation of their crown jewel.

Torres’ deal at the Mestalla entered its final year this summer, with little progress having been made towards an extension.

This, in turn, saw Valencia forced into taking Torres’ sale into consideration ahead of next season, to ensure that they did not lose him for free in a years’ time.

And, as outlined above, one of the Premier League’s heavyweights have today profited from this situation.

The side in question are Manchester City, with the Citizens having taken to social media a short time ago to announce Torres’ signing.

The Spaniard has put pen-to-paper on a 5-year deal at the Etihad, for a rumoured cut-price fee of just €23 million.

Speaking on the back of his City switch being made official, Torres explained:

‘I am so happy to be joining City. Every player wants to be involved in attacking teams and Manchester City are one of the most attacking in world football.’

‘Pep encourages a really open, aggressive style, which I love, and he is a manager with a proven track record of improving players. To have him overseeing my development is a dream.’

‘City have won plenty of trophies in the last 10 years and I hope I can play a role in continuing that success.’

City’s Sancho clause

Torres’ arrival, though, is not the only piece of significant transfer news surrounding Manchester City to have emerged in the media this evening.

The 2nd centres on Jadon Sancho.

With Manchester United now widely reported to be closing on the signature of the Borussia Dortmund wide-man, a reminder of Sancho’s City past has been forthcoming.

The information comes courtesy of the reliable Paul Hirst of the Times.

It is claimed that, should Sancho, as expected, eventually seal a move to Old Trafford, a significant chunk of the transfer fee paid will in fact be owed to United’s city rivals.

This comes with the Sky Blues having included a 15% sell-on clause in the deal which sent Sancho to Germany back in 2017.
