Mali vs Côte d’Ivoire live streaming: Match preview

Will Mali’s excellent form continue?

Not too much was expected of the Eagles in this tournament but they have been superb so far.

Mohamed Magassouba’s side kicked off with a 4-1 demolition of Mauritania.

Abdoulay Diaby, Moussa Marega and two different Adama Traorés getting the goals.

They then held group favourites Tunisia to a 1-1 draw thanks to a goal direct from a corner by Diadie Samassékou.

Then, last Tuesday, Amadou Haidara’s first international goal secured a 1-0 win over Angola which ensured they’d finish top.

Can they now take out African heavyweights Côte d’Ivoire?

Les Éléphants’ form in this tournament has been indifferent.

Jonathan Kodjia’s goal did see them beat South Africa 1-0 on matchday one but that was followed by a 1-0 defeat to Morocco.

Ivory Coast were completely outclassed in that one.

Nevertheless, they bounce back by beating Namibia 4-1; Max-Alain Gradel, Serey Dié, Wilfried Zaha and Maxwel Cornet all getting on the scoresheet.

That result secured second place in the group but Ibrahima Kamara will be demanding better from his team.

Côte d’Ivoire are one of the big boys in African football.

They’ve qualified for three of the last four World Cups and won AFCON on two occasions.

In stark contrast, Mali have never made it to a World Cup and only won one of eight Russia 2018 qualifiers.

They’ve also never won this competition; finishing third in 2012 and 2013 but going out in the group stages in 2015 and 2017.

Despite all of that, based on the way these too are playing, it would be no surprise if Mali caused an upset in Suez.
