Major update confirmed in Man United’s pursuit of Mauricio Pochettino

Major update confirmed in Man United’s pursuit of Mauricio Pochettino

A fresh update surrounding the efforts of Premier League giants Manchester United to lure Mauricio Pochettino to the club has been forthcoming on Saturday evening.

Rangnick incoming

The subject of the bench at Old Trafford has proven headline news across the last 48 hours.

This comes with a key development in not only United’s managerial plans, but sporting project as a whole, having been forthcoming altogether out of the blue.

Owing to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal last weekend, those in a position of power at Old Trafford were of course faced with the delicate task of bringing in the kind of mind capable of condemning a near-decade’s worth of poor decisions both on the pitch and off to the history books.

And, in the eyes of most, on Thursday, the Red Devils took a considerable step towards precisely that.

As confirmed by a host of reliable sources, United swooped decisively to tie up a deal with footballing savant Ralf Rangnick, with a view towards the German taking up the managerial reins at the club for the remainder of the campaign, before taking his place in the boardroom through 2024:

Not only that, but, on Friday, the Old Trafford brass struck a deal with their Lokomotiv Moscow counterparts, to release their next manager from his current terms in the Russian capital.

Poch next up?

Whilst, of course, the seemingly imminent arrival of Rangnick will go some way towards steadying the ship at Man United when it comes to the remainder of the current campaign, though, what of the situation beyond next summer?

Reports continue to circulate that the Red Devils are already hard at work in their bid to secure the German’s long-term successor, with one name repeatedly pushed by the media as the first-choice of the Manchester giants.

The tactician in question? Mauricio Pochettino.

Former Tottenham boss Pochettino is currently in the midst of an altogether underwhelming spell in France, with capital giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Amid his struggles to get the best out of a star-studded panel of players, though, it has been suggested that Pochettino could yet secure a Premier League return, with the aforementioned United.

And, if the latest word stemming from the press on Saturday evening is anything to go by, then such a prospect may well yet be on the cards.

As per a report from Goal.com, PSG will not enter into negotiations over the potential mid-season departure of their man in charge.

However, they are expected to be open to such a prospect next summer, when, of course, Rangnick’s temporary spell on the touchline in Manchester will come to an end.

This, in turn, will open the door to a potential Red Devils switch, with ‘Poch’ remaining the ‘first choice’ target to take over at the Theatre of Dreams ahead of next season.
