FIFA v Real & Atletico Madrid

Thursday is set to be a huge day for both Real Madrid and city rivals Atletico.

For more than a year, both Madrid clubs have been under investigation by FIFA for their behaviour in signing minors.

Previously, FC Barcelona were subjected to a year-long transfer embargo for breaching rules related to signing under-aged players.

For the record, Barcelona continued to sign players during the transfer ban, but were just unable to register them until it was completed. The most high profile signing in this case was Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid.

This week, FIFA are set to make their announcement regarding the two Madrid clubs.

Fine instead of a ban?

According to Spanish TV show El Chiringuito, the Madrid clubs may avoid the same punishment as was handed out to Barcelona.

It’s believed FIFA may simply slap hefty fines on Los Blancos and the Rojiblancos, rather than imposing transfer restrictions.

On Monday night, El Chiringuito host Josep Pedrerol told his audience:

We will know FIFA’s decision this Thursday. Both Atletico de Madrid and Real Madrid could be fined, it doesn’t have to be the same punishment Barcelona received some time ago.

Should that transpire, expects Barcelona fans to complain on social media about how their club were treated unfairly.
