Major developments in Man United’s Antonio Conte pursuit confirmed

Conte Chelsea

An altogether telling development in Manchester United’s pursuit of a new manager has been forthcoming on Monday night.

Reds run riot

The subject of the hotseat at Old Trafford has of course taken centre stage in the headlines over the last 24 hours.

This comes on the back of one of the darkest days in the recent history of Man United.

On Sunday evening, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men welcomed arch rivals Liverpool to Manchester, for a highly-anticipated Premier League showdown.

The Red Devils headed into proceedings aware that nothing but a positive result would suffice, after slipping a full eight points adrift of table-topping Chelsea owing to a draw and two defeats from the club’s prior three outings.

To say that, when all was said and done, such a positive outcome was not forthcoming, however, would be an understatement.

A staggering 90 minutes, across which the hosts looked nothing short of an embarrassment from a defensive standpoint, ultimately culminated in Liverpool emerging on the right side of a 5-0 scoreline.

Conte eyed

In turn, despite reports over recent weeks having assured that his position remained secure at Old Trafford, it has come as little surprise to see speculation surrounding the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer begin to mount on Monday.

A 5-0 humiliation at the hands of your most historic rivals would be enough to see almost any manager in world football sent on their way, with such a development on the red half of Manchester now beginning to look increasingly likely.

Earlier this afternoon, it was of course revealed that those in a position of power at United had begun to give ‘serious consideration’ to Solskjaer’s dismissal.

And now, just hours later, a further, and altogether telling development has been forthcoming.

As per a host of reports stemming from Italy, Manchester United have made first contact with Antonio Conte, over the possibility of taking up the managerial reins at the club.

Former Chelsea and Juventus boss Conte is one of few high-profile tacticians likely to be available at this moment in time, owing to his free agent status after bringing an end to a stint with Serie A giants Inter Milan this past summer.

Further updates on the situation are expected over the coming hours and days.
