‘I wasn’t good enough for him’: Lyon’s Memphis Depay explains what went wrong at Man United (Video)

Memphis at Lyon

Memphis Depay is currently lighting it up in Ligue 1 with Lyon, which is something of a surprise given how poor he was at United.

The Dutch winger arrived at Old Trafford in summer 2015 having played a leading role in PSV’s league title, and Manchester United showed just how highly regarded him by bequeathing him their legendary number 7 shirt.

But 77 would have probably been a more appropriate number for Memphis, such is the little time he actually spent on the pitch.

Memphis barely started a game under Mourinho, and by the end he had been completely frozen out of the picture, to the point that he was forced to leave in search of more regular football.

‘I wasn’t good enough for him’

Speaking in this interview with beIN Sports, Memphis comes across very humble and magnanimous when asked about his failure at United.

Insisting he has no grudge of bitterness towards Mourinho, admitting that he probably just ‘wasn’t good enough’ for the Portuguese.
