Lyon’s Depay could return to Manchester United-Pires

Memphis Depay

Depay impresses for Lyon & Netherlands

Memphis Depay left Manchester United for Ligue 1 outfit Lyon in January of 2017.

Since arriving in France Depay has made 106 appearances across all competitions.

In those 106 games, he has scored 35 and assisted 39.

Depay is also having a solid 2018/19 campaign, scoring eight and assisting 14.

The 25-year-old is currently on international duty with the Netherlands where he is also impressing.

While his side lost 3-2 vs Germany on Sunday, Depay put on a stellar display and found the back of the net.

Pires on Depay returning to Man United

While Depay now looks to be back to his best, his big-money move to Old Trafford in 2015 from PSV didn’t go so well.

Depay scored just seven and assisted six in 53 appearances for United.

As a result, Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes the Dutchman would be open to returning to Manchester to exorcise those demons and prove he is a top player:

“I think Depay wants to come back to the Premier League and he feels he has unfinished business in England.

“It didn’t work out for him at Manchester United and Depay is a very proud player.

“He perhaps feels he wasn’t given a chance to perform and earn the right to stay longer considering he was so young and showed glimpses of undoubted potential.

“‘Depay might want to return to Manchester United or he might be motivated to prove them wrong by performing for one of their rivals in the Premier League.”As quoted by the Metro.
