Luis Suarez can leave Atletico Madrid for free this summer despite signing 2-year contract

Simeone lauds Suarez

The arrival of Luis Suarez at Atletico Madrid has been a catalyst for a title-chasing season. Thought of as Spain’s third most likely title competitor, Atleti have gone on an amazing run and opened up a sizeable gap between themselves and their rivals.

Whilst Barcelona and Real Madrid have stuttered and dropped points in many games, Diego Simeone’s team have pushed on and been consistent throughout the season.

Much of the success has been helped by Suarez and Simeone recently praised the former Barca goalscorer.

“The moment I spoke with Luis on the phone I found what he gives on the pitch: a lot of desire and energy,” Simeone said. “The team helps him to be at his best, which is scoring, something that has marked him throughout his career.”

But could the Uruguayan’s time at the club be brought to a premature end?

Secret Suarez release clause

A revealing report has been released by Spanish outlet Marca who have claimed a secret clause within Luis Suarez’s his contract which would allow the Uruguayan striker to leave the club for absolutely nothing despite signing a two-year deal.

Suarez has been a revelation since his arrival at Atletico Madrid and has pushed them on to becoming the league title favourites this campaign. He has scored 16 goals in 18 La Liga appearances this season and will be aiming to get his first Champions League goal in Atleti’s match with Chelsea next week.

The former Barcelona man has been compared to former Spanish international and World Cup winner David Villa. The forward left Barcelona and joined Atletico Madrid before winning the league with the Rojiblancos. Despite signing a three-year deal he left after the title-winning season and joined New York City FC.

For Suarez though, the reported clause is said not to be a concern with his future still very much at Atletico Madrid beyond this season even if they were to lift the title once again.
