Digne joins Barcelona
Barcelona signed two 22-year-old French internationals on the same day. Decent work, that. Although the capture of Lucas Digne hasn’t been met with universal praise. A large section of Blaugrana supporters believes that the full-back is second-rate.
Point to prove
He certainly hasn’t built on the potential he showed at Lille, his first professional club. Digne’s displays there convinced Paris Saint-Germain to splash out in 2013 on the then-19-year-old. The €15 million transfer didn’t work out.
Two below-par seasons led to a season-long loan at Roma. Digne showed flashes of his old form but still lacked consistency.
Yet Barcelona clearly found his attacking play to be appealing enough to give him the chance of a lifetime.
He scored three goals for Roma last season and is usually deployed on the left flank. However, with Dani Alves now at Italian giants Juventus, Luis Enrique might play the new signing on the right.
