‘Looks a different player’: Aston Villa fans single one player out for special praise after Palace triumph

Aston Villa’s supporters have taken to social media in their absolute droves this evening, to lavish praise on midfield star Marvelous Nakamba.

McGinn amongst the goals

Villa were of course back in action a short time ago.

On the back of an impressive 2-0 downing of Brighton & Hove Albion last time out, the Claret and Blue made the trip to the capital to face Crystal Palace, hopeful of back-to-back wins under the watch of Steven Gerrard.

And, when all was said and done, make it six points from six since the change of hands on the club’s bench is precisely what the visitors managed.

A hard-fought 90 minutes was ultimately decided by a pair of goals, one early in proceedings and one late.

First up came Matt Targett, who, after Ashley Young’s deep corner from the right made its way beyond everyone to the back post, did superbly to control, before lashing a left-footed effort beyond the helpless Vicente Guaita:

And the points were wrapped up inside the closing five minutes, when Anwar El Ghazi’s pull-back to the edge of the area was bent home in sumptuous fashion by John McGinn.

Marvellous Marvelous

As outlined above, though, on the back of the full-time whistle sounding at Selhurst Park, it is not goalscorers Targett or McGinn who have since taken the majority of the plaudits amongst the Aston Villa faithful.

Instead, this honour has been reserved for Marvelous Nakamba.

Midfielder Nakamba, on the back of a somewhat hit-and-miss opening to the campaign, showcased flashes of his brilliant best last time out, up against Brighton.

And this afternoon, the 27-year-old took things to another level altogether, patrolling the middle of the park with equal quality and vigour, amid a stellar all-round performance.

In turn, those of a Villa persuasion have not been at all shy in heaping praise on Nakamba in the game’s aftermath, with just some of the social media highlights showcased below:
